Peek-a-Boo

from £10.00

This piece was inspired by a truly magical sighting we had in Kruger National Park. After glimpsing a rhino in the distance, we looped around in the hope of meeting her again. We settled quietly in a small clearing, watching the game trail she had been following and waiting with that familiar mix of patience and anticipation that comes with tracking wildlife.

Our patience was rewarded. She appeared around the corner with calm confidence, her massive silhouette materialising through the bush. And then—an even greater surprise—a tiny calf trotted out behind her, staying close to her side as only a young rhino can. It was a rare and intimate glimpse into the secret world of these gentle giants.

Did you know that rhino calves often stay with their mothers for up to three years, learning essential survival skills and relying on her protection until they are strong enough to live independently? Witnessing the very beginning of that bond felt incredibly special, and it’s a moment I felt compelled to capture in this artwork.
